A Dedication for Yusuf Talia - Tetris for Life and it's FREE

Postby basit » January 1st, 2009, 3:38 pm

A Blast from the PAST ! ! !

Now this part of the forum has nothing to do with business or the CompuByte .Net Pos Software it’s ummmm a personal rambling.

I took a short deserved holiday (so I think ) on a cruise to nowhere ; I decided No cell phone; No internet; No support, No clients and yes NO PROGRAMMING ; just plain relaxing . .

Items on board :- A pair of shorts ; Some books to read :-
Battle for God – Karen Amstrong
A bevy of Jodi Piccoult’s books.

Six glorious days go by and I have read all the’m books now I have withdrawals symptoms on the seventh day ; I need to program ; just have toooo program . . must program . .

Now I look back at all the promises I made ; I will not do business; i will relax . yada yada yada fishpaste . . like a addict looking for an excuse . . I find one . .

I had told a grand nephew of mine (yeh ! that’s my nieces kid whose now a man) that I will write a program just for him so I am gonna do just that. . . But what program do I write ; Yusuf Talia(my grand nephew) has muscular dystrophy ; his illness was discovered when he was still a young boy and that’s when I said I will write a proggy just for him . . Now his a man and a cum'luade Commerce student (BCom) at Wits (and an active elected member of the SRC there) and I have still not done so!

I never play computer games the only one I ever played was one when the first PC’s rolled out in them dawning days of computing; it was Yusuf’s dad Nazeer who got me hooked on to Tetris ; a simple drop them bricks game . . So I re-wrote this game with all the things the original game never had ; within three hours and a few minutes I was happy with the code. . Yeh ! enough time spent for for Renat’e to tolerate me ; being infront of a PC when I was to suppose to give her some quality pempering *hehe* woman. .

Enjoy this game downloadable from :-

http://www.compubyte.co.za/updates/tetris.exe

Important : Depending on your browser security you may have to right click on the link(s) above and click on Save Target As then type in tetris.exe and change Save as Type to All files (All files and not html)

Please also note that since I am using the latest technologies available ; the program will only work on windows XP and higher (Vista) and you must have the .Net framework installed ; Also note ONLY IF YOU DONT have XP but no .net framework you can download this framework from the link below :-

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&displaylang=en

Enjoy !

Grand Nephew

Postby bossalino » January 1st, 2009, 8:20 pm

I was just about to start working and now you spoilt it, you got me playing games. i think this might just be the start of you making that 1st million and get you a Gts 3. We also wont ask your age after find out you have a grand nephew.

Now when will you code something for me?

I'm emailing you my catalouge to look at and see how we describe items, Maybe it will assist in making one for outfitters.

p.s My charge is $20.

Zaki , you Tetris addict you ; you never told the rest of the people who visit the forum that you actually beat the highest score -- You have to post the PIC of the score here before I can give you a USB bar code scanner for FREE . . When you collecting it ? (For those of you have been snoozing and not playing Tetris ; everytime you beat a high score you win something)

Zaki ! You must have played Tetris way to many times before; no one and I mean; NO one could ever beat Renate's score . .

As for being a Great grand Uncle . . *hehe* I was always 69 now that's really old . . call me Hunk'le ; so I must have a grand nephew . . (born in 69 gotcha). Did you say make my 1 million ; I need to make 100 mil to just break even

As for the catalogue you sent you can use a catalgue for clothing just by inserting the same catalogue details into the catalogue field and you could get a catalgue as well as by setting parameter 274 (just insert a one) and your reports will be catorgrised by category (ie catalogue) and also be searchable by this catalogue :)

O shikes . . you made me switch into work mode . . . :(

Here We Are

Postby bossalino » January 2nd, 2009, 12:39 am

That was only my second attempt. My 7 year old daughter insisted i stop so she could have a turn. Hang on to that handheld scanner. i need to beat this score 7 more times so that you can give me a WIRELESS handheld scanner.

As far as Renate's score is concerned, just code her into 1st place. We will fight for second.
Ive been using the Catalouge i sent you for as long as i can remember. you know i like my things 100%

But i will visit in mid jan to see more about this cash book of yours.
I would like to figure out how to get that 100%

Now attached is the proof, and for those born in 69, put on ur glasses.

Updated: I finshed the 10 levels and don't think this score can be beaten by much

I don't have my glasses on so I can't verify the score . .

With a score that high YOU must have been practicing before . . You disqualified ; you have to be a first time user ..

Just kidd'in you do still win the prize ; but to gain any more prizes you have to beat someone else score and yeh ! you have to be someone registered on the forum and from an IP not from Cape Town or Pretoria . . *hehehe* and your daughter, wife next of kin family or freinds (all zillion of them) not allowed . .

Don't you like work or something . Playing tetris may like make you an Einstein but wont be acceptable as work . . Then again, you have all them stores and all them managers slaving for you while you relax in beutiful Cape Town

I envy you . . . when I grow up I wanna be jis like you . .

Tetris Effect *hehe*

Be warned ! ! ! Be warned ! ! ! Be warned ! ! !

The Tetris effect is the ability of an activity to which people devote sufficient time and attention to begin overshadowing their thoughts, mental images, and dreams. It is named after the video game Tetris. In the game a player rotates and moves different falling tetrominoes, or shapes made up of four square blocks. If the player can arrange the shapes so there are complete horizontal lines of blocks without any gaps, those lines are eliminated. The object of the game is to eliminate as many lines as possible before the shapes fill the screen.

People who play Tetris for a long time might then find themselves thinking about ways different shapes in the real world can fit together, such as the boxes on a supermarket shelf or the buildings on a street. In this sense, the Tetris effect is a form of habit.

They might also see images of falling Tetris shapes at the edges of their visual fields or when they close their eyes. In this sense, the Tetris effect is a form of hallucination.

They might also dream about falling Tetris shapes when drifting off to sleep. In this sense, the Tetris effect is a form of hypnagogic imagery

. . . If you read all this you an addict

more info :-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetris_effect

The Tetris effect can occur with other video games, with any prolonged visual task (such as classifying cells on microscope slides, weeding, picking fruit, flipping burgers, or even playing chess) ... Computer programmers and developers sometimes have similar experiences, and report dreaming about code when they sleep at night, and return to work the next day feeling like they had never left

My best programs are written in my sleep *haha* be scared very scared. .and The Simpons is my favourate cartoon!
The Tetris effect appears in several examples of popular culture. For example, the ability of Tetris to dominate one's thoughts was parodied in the cartoon The Simpsons. In the episode "Strong Arms of the Ma", Homer Simpson uses his Tetris skills to fit several hundred dollars worth of garage sale items in his sedan and fails to fit himself  . Similarly, in the episode Homer and Lisa Exchange Cross Words, Lisa's recent obsession with crosswords causes her to mentally arrange words around her into a crossword grid.

The secret to my success is called Compubyte. You should try it, you might just end up in cape town.

Now imagine if i really used it properly i could watch the sunset from my 40 million apartment instead of driving there in my toyota

And if you wanna be like me then grow down to those born in 79.
