Towards total redundancy !

Post by basit »

Null downtime for large networks. ..

If you have a large outlet like a supermarket with many terminals you can follow the steps below to create a network with almost zero downtime !
  • 1) You should have two windows servers
  • 2) Servers should be named Server and Server-B
  • 3) Each terminals including server should connect to both servers as follows.
  • 4) Drive letter P to Server and B to Server-B
  • 5) Default connected drive must be P on all terminals
  • 6) If Main server goes down all you do is on each terminal change data drive letter to B
  • 7) On Main server (P) set parameter 260 to 1/B
  • 8. On Server-B (B) set parameter 261 to 1/(COMPANY NUMBER)
  • 9) On Main server(P) Setup dashboard to auto run at a specific time when you closed example 9pm. Insert entry in dashboard under:- Send data to head office drive letter B
  • 10) On Server-B (B) Setup Dashboard to auto run at a specific time when you close (plus 30 minutes) example 9.30pm. Insert entry in dashboard under :- Head Office Unarjing for company (COMPANY NUMBER) and below insert drive C
  • 11) Please note DASHBAORD must be purchased from CompuByte separately for using options 9 and 10.
  • 12) Make sure you set on SERVER-B parameter 516 to 1

Very important server-b should be dedicated and not used for sales - server b must always have data drive as C and not P
